100ft Robot Golf (PC) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of No Goblin's 2017 PC arcade-style golf game, 100ft Robot Golf. This video covers the entire campaign mode with all gameplay settings left at their defaults. The graphics are running at the highest possible settings at 1080p w/2x supersampling, maintaining 60fps throughout. After completing the campaign mode, I played a short "quick round" with my custom golfer, a plaid-colored, evil golfing skeleton named Jeffrey beginning at 2:48:52. 100ft Robot Golf is exactly what it sounds like. It's an absurdist take on a future of mechanized sports. While this concept is far from new (Mecharobot Golf did this 25 years ago), it's rare that any concept gets addressed in such tongue-in-cheek way - even when the approach makes sense. Rather than shying away from the sillier aspects of a title that has you hitting the links in super-powered robots, it's embraces its own bizarre and unique identity completely. The running commentary is usually pretty hilarious (well, until you hear too many repeated lines) and in no way takes itself seriously - I especially loved how the first cinematic begins with a throwback to the early days of internet anime fan-subbing with the 90s style EFnet channel plug (even if the hash-tag was little more than a "pound sign" back circa 1996) and proceeds to set up the game with a ton of very poorly animated FMV sequences matched up with over-dubs that are even worse. This is not a bad thing, as it might sound to those unfamiliar with the title. The hilariously terrible quality of the cutscenes (and of the story) is in no way unintentional. It was intended to be this way. The guys at No Goblin really pulled out all of the stops to ensure that it effectively lampoons the awful drek of so many 80s and 90s era English-language anime presentations: I imagine it'd be quite easy to use this as an excuse to put forth as little effort as possible, but that's not the case here. It's actually pretty brilliant as for as comedic parodies go - it looks exactly like the type of thing that it satirizes, yet still manages to be hysterically funny and entertaining. Your sense of humor is going to dictate how much you appreciate the work done here, but it certainly met its target with me. The golfing aspect is just as out-there. Sometimes your performance is based on stroke-count, but many times it's based on how well you can sink your putt before the other players on the course can. It's not as simple as merely hitting the ball from fairway to fairway though - you can fire missiles and swing your giant club to smash buildings, biodomes, and anything else in your way to clear a path for the ball; activate super-powers that changes shot physics or allows you to go flying over the heads of your rivals without being attacked; stand directly in the path of another golfer's shot to bounce it back at them - there are tons of possibilities (they change as you switch between the several robot types you pilot during the campaign) and they all make for a thoroughly fun time. Everythign looks extremely chaotic at first (and in reality, it always is!), but it doesn't take long for things to fall into place and make sense. 100ft Robot Golf isn't particularly long, complex, or demanding, but it doesn't try to be. It's a completely irreverent look at Japanese media that nails American humor to a T, and the price tag is more than reasonable for the dozen or so hours you are likely to get out of it before putting it away for something else. If you like golf and/or giant robots, or ever thought that any golf game would be improved if you could only play as a Gundam, this was meant for you. Do yourself a favor and play it - if you can appreciate its silliness, you'll thoroughly enjoy your time with it. ________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video. NintendoComplete (
