Imagine: Ballet Star was one of my favorite games as a child. Naomi is only available to play in the Japanese version of the game. After years of wondering what her story was, I decided to embark on this translation project, and I'm sharing my work in this video so hopefully now anybody who was also curious about her story can finally experience it, too. For those wondering: Naomi was likely unable to make the final cut of the international game due to time constraints. When looking through the game files within the international release, there were empty placeholders, and a few pieces of unfinished concept art where Naomi's event screens should've been. When comparing those same files within Japan release, all of Naomi's screens were present, finished, and no empty placeholders were to be found. Additionally, there are some added details in some of Swan's event screens in the Japan release, that aren't present in the international version. Seeing as translation is a lengthy process, one could assume that the game had to be passed along for localization before it was fully finished, meaning that, unfortunately for the rest of the world, Naomi's story must have missed the deadline. We may never know for certain, but that's my theory based on the available information. I've done my best to translate the dialogue as accurately as I could. For transparency, my own knowledge of Japanese is novice, so I heavily relied on online Japanese dictionaries, translators, and language forums to aid me in this project. This means that, while I tried to ensure that the sentiments of the dialogue were all conveyed as accurately as possible, it may not always be a perfect word-for-word translation. I acknowledge that my translation may not be up to everyone's standards, I just ask for some grace as this was a very time consuming passion project. My only goal was to make Naomi's route accessible to other nostalgic fans of the game, all from a place of love and enthusiasm for this story and the characters. I thank you for your understanding. I'd also like to clarify that some of the character names and competition names in Japanese are different than the names in the official English versions used in Imagine: Ballet Star. I chose to stick with the official English names, for the sake of consistency. This video took months to make, and the translation process took me over a year.
