Commodore 64 Longplay [282] Wizball (EU)

Played by: MadMatty Wizball, an original game developed by Sensible Software and published by Ocean Software in 1987. "For many years, Wiz and his fantastic cat lived happily in brightly coloured Wizworld. All was not well however as a malevolent force has discovered this vista and intended to stamp out brilliance once and for all. The evil Zark and his horrible sprites have moved in to eliminate the spectrum and render all landscapes drab and grey. So jump in your transporter and with the help of your faithful servant Catelite restore Wizworld to its former glory. Collect icons for special effects as you maneuver to shake off the alien forces. Stunning graphics create the mood for a thrilling and compulsive game with hordes of hidden features and extra controls." This is one of those misunderstood games that can put people off right at the start if you don't know how to play it. Bouncing around trying to shoot stuff and often just bouncing into enemy fire leading to frustration. However, if you take the time to read the instructions and realize how the upgrade systems works and what the coloured alien pickups are for, suddenly there is a a fun but very challenging game to be played. Firstly, the Thrust and Anti-grav should be enabled by destroying aliens, collecting the powerups and wiggling left-right to enable. This allows you to better control wizball. Then get the cat upgrade so that you can destroy the paintballs and collect the paint. each level needs specific colors or a mix of them to complete it. To add to the challenge, primary colors only appear in certain levels so you need to move between them through the holes in the ground. To slow you down, each level has a number of enemies that need to be destroyed before the enemy waves reset. Annoyingly quite often, that last enemy you need to destroy can be hidden and you may need to go in and out of the level a few times before it will appear. Throughout the longplay, the Collison detection looks very suspect but rest assured no cheats are used. You can see that even some collectables are difficult to pic up unless you hit them just right. With better planning i'm sure I could have finished it a little quicker. I was trying to keep the color pots full and then the game decides to take it all the moment I enter a level which messed up the plan. At the start of the video I let the title music play out. During the game I play the Bonus levels for a bit mainly showing the music and then how extra lives appear. After that I fail them to get through the game a bit quicker. The video ends with the highscore music playing out. Overall, a classic C64 game that was converted to most home computer systems of the time. Once completed the game resets and throws you back in with a higher level of difficulty. Well im not up for that and ended the game here. I would rather have had a proper ending. 00:00:00 Title Music 00:03:34 Game starts Here Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
