Super Stardust HD (PS3) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Sony Computer Entertainment's 2007 shoot 'em up for the PlayStation 3, Super Stardust HD. Played through the arcade mode on the normal difficulty level. Back when Super Stardust HD came out, I played it endlessly. It came out not long after I got the PS3, and being early days, there wasn't a ton of stuff on the system had caught my interest yet. Until Super Stardust HD. I spent a huge chunk of that summer playing it over and over. I could play it for hours on end, and wouldn't think twice about finishing it and immediately starting again. My eyes sometimes felt like they would never uncross after long play sessions - especially when I was brave enough to play it in 3D. Super Stardust HD was actually the third game in a series. Housemarque created the first game, Stardust, in 1993 for computers, and followed it up with Super Stardust in 1994 (Amiga) and 1996 (Dos PC). Eleven years later, they finally decided to grace us with a new entry, specifically designed for Sony's brand new powerhouse console. And it certainly made use of that power. Super Stardust HD managed a full 1080p at 60fps that rarely saw any hitches no matter how much stuff was exploding across the screen at once, and it's certainly a impressive sight in action. The gameplay feels like a cross between Asteroids and Robotron - somewhat like Geometry Wars did. It's a dual stick shooter that relies reflexes as heavily as any of the best 80s arcade titles ever did, and chasing high scores can be insanely addictive. It takes a ton of focus, but it's really satisfying to find your stride as you cut through swathes of baddies in almost meditative trance. The super-sweet electronic music also nails the feeling of the Amiga games perfectly, and the droning, driving beat is excellent for helping you get a rhythm going. I'm nowhere near as good at it anymore as I used to be - I could finish it on hard with no problem ten years ago, but certainly not now. It kinda sucks time tends to rust skills, huh? Anyways, I do die a few times during the game, but not as often as I had expected to. I was pleased enough with my performance here, though it certainly won't burn down any records. Super Stardust HD is a great example of a throwback-sequel done right. It maintains the feeling of the originals while elevating it to modern standards. It may be simple, but the gameplay has got legs like Forrest Gump. The older one without the leg braces, I mean. (And sorry about the video quality! The file I uploaded was a crystal clear, razor sharp 6GB h.265 encode with no visible distortion or artifacting in the picture. It seems that YouTube didn't particularly care, though, since even the high-bitrate 1080p60 stream looks like it was processed with a meat grinder) *Sad face. _ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
