Adapted from the Spanish military tradition of pasodoble, (double step), and its famous 120 steps per minute, and following the style of music the Comedian Harmonists invested in, Rosita (a pasodoble) is a snappy flurry of flirtation, longing and declarations of love! Here, this song is arranged with a contemporary, classical twist, for voice, clarinet, cello and piano, by Rumen Boyadzhiev, specially for Jessica Leschnikoff to sing. The group reached international fame and great fortune at their height, famous for their perfect close harmony and ability to convey the deepest sadness to the highest humour. While much has been written about the Comedian Harmonists, and Leshnikov's irreplaceable tenor voice, it is little known that he also recorded well over one hundred solo songs in Bulgarian, and recently discovered, several solo songs in German, mainly on the Bulgarian state recording label Balkanton, but also with others, from the 1920s until early 1940s. From this considerable catalogue, perhaps only 16 songs are known in Bulgaria. Efforts are now underway to catalogue and collect audio recordings from fragile shellac discs residing in mainly private collections.
