Playthrough: "Versailles II: Testament of the King" Playlist: • Playthrough: "Versailles II: Testament of ... Released in 2001, this was Cryo Interactive's LAST historical adventure-game before the company went bankrupt. Ironically, it was the sequel to their FIRST historical title "Versailles 1685." Compared to the original one, the sequel has (of course) better graphics, but also puzzles and overal gameplay. But one thing is missing; the atmosphere is less mysterious and more 'blend' I guess. But it makes this game much more accessible compared to the original. Cinematics were quite impressive back in the day with their facial animations, cloth-emulation and lighting. But gone are the ingame close-ups of characters when talking to them, and gone is their lip-sync. Overall an enjoyable short adventure, because of the setting and accessible gameplay. But by no means anything special. === TECHNICAL NOTES The DVD-version of this game is quite rare, but contains sharper graphics compared to the CD-ROM-version. I installed the game in a Windows 10 environment (64-bit). No compatibility-mode. Be sure security-settings on your PC allow the install-program to start! I installed these DVD-patches: 1.0.4.0B and 1.0.5.0B ( Use the CD-versions if you have the CD-ROM-version. With the 1.0.5.0B-patch; be sure to install them in the right map on your harddisk! I used the wrapper 'dgVoodoo' as an alternative videocard. (Download it here: Copy D3D8.dll, d3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll and dgVoodooCpl in the Versailles II-folder, installed on your harddisk. Open dgVoodooCpl: under the 'DirectX-tab: select Geforce4-videocard, select 'no mipmapping', Resolution 'unforced', Antialiasing 'off', select 'bilinear blit stretch' & 'Force Vsync.' Be sure Windows Media Player is installed in Windows 10. You'll need it for showing cinematics. (Get it on the Microsoft-website) Go to your CD-folder and open the fmv-folder there. Right-click on the file "c1s1.wmv" and select 'open with' and choose "Windows Media player". Don't forget to check 'Always use this app to open .wmv files.' Start the game by clicking on "Versailles II DVD 1024.exe." (not "Versailles II.exe." This one will chrash) One glitch remained; it puts the cinematics on top of the screen and I simple couldn't solve this. I corrected this in my video's to show the game the way it was intended. © Cryo Interactive Entertainment
