The French Quarter Festival held in New Orleans justifiably holds its title as the worlds best traditional jazz festival. In 1995 two British tours visited New Orleans for the festival, The Ashley Tour and The Southern Sounds Tour. Prior to the FQF, the Ashley Tour went into Cajun Country in the swamp lands near New Orleans for dinner and entertainment by a Cajun family, the Dewsenburys. Our group was split into two, and while one group ate their dinner, the other group was entertained by the family musicians and a neighbor. This was very enjoyable. The Arcadia's had left Canada some 200 years earlier due to discrimination against them introduced by the British. They came to the swamp lands of Southeast Louisiana. They became known as the Cajuns and they are still bi-lingual. We were all impressed by their friendliness and hospitality, and the food was good too! A very enjoyable and unique evening.
