It was developed by Software Creations – their first original title – and published by CSG Imagesoft (now Sony Interactive Entertainment) in North America and Nintendo in Europe. The game was released in North America in June 1990 and in Europe on September 26, 1991. • The setting in Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos is non-linear. ◦ It consists of more than two hundred and fifty rooms, most of which have a specific puzzle to be solved. • Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos features music by Tim Follin, whose credits include Silver Surfer (1990), Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge (1992), Plok (1993) and Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future (2000). ◦ The game's title track is Follin's favorite of his compositions, and has become one of his most recognizable tracks. • In Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos, the wizard Shadax must defeat the evil Baron Morbius and rescue Princess Eleanor, whom Morbius plans to sacrifice. ◦ Shadax's goal is to collect the six pieces of the titular Staff of Demnos hidden in the fortress of Kâstleröck. • Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos spawned a sequel for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Equinox (1993).
