Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 [PS1] - Super Saiyan 3 Goku
This is a play-through with Super Saiyan 3 Goku in the PS1 game Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22. Read on below for more information... Super Saiyan 3 Goku is the sub-boss in the game. He is an unlockable playable character. ===== About Super Saiyan 3 Goku ===== He's a more powerful version of Goku after a transformation... which I imagine makes this character extremely powerful in the story-line. Probably the most powerful ever? Design-wise, he's a typical DBZ "human" design with the usual spiked hair and baggy trousers. In SS3 Goku's case, he gains longer hair. I've never really been a fan of the DBZ franchise so I know nothing about the manga/anime... so do pardon my ignorance. As mentioned earlier, he is the penultimate boss of this game in the 1P vs Com mode... so it takes a while to reach him. ===== Additional Information ===== ---- The game's in-game title screen text turns into Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 27 after you enter the input method to unlock the 5 CPU/boss characters. ===== About DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22 ===== I think this is one of those games that relies almost solely upon the franchise name to make it appealing, because the gameplay is a bit crap. And I'm not even being harsh, because I'm one of the most forgiving and open-minded players when it comes to fighting games. The whole game is very poorly built... in gameplay, the hit pause is almost non-existent which makes the whole thing feel "loose". The special moves - especially the ones which use half-circles - are very hard to get working, which means that the input timings are extremely strict. You will not be able to perform the half-circle motion special moves all the time in this game. And as for the super moves which require 2 x half-circle motions... good luck getting THOSE to work. Graphically-wise, the sprites have clearly been lazily resized from sources instead of being drawn to the correct pixel sizes for the game, which makes the characters look extremely pixelated. The 3D stage backgrounds are also very boring as well, and to make it worse, the game runs at 30fps. Also, I don't know if it's a "tradition" of DBZ or not, but what is it with those small "kid-like" characters? I hated fighting against them, because them being so small makes them hard to hit, and they're also quite powerful as well. And finally... have I ever told you that I dislike character select screens in fighting games where it uses the actual in-battle sprites grouped closely together, making it unclear on which row you're on and making it somewhat difficult to reach a character you want quickly?
