Amazon: Guardians of Eden (PC) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of the CD-based talkie version of Access Software's 1992 interactive movie/adventure game for PCs running Dos, Amazon: Guardians of Eden. I remember drooling so hard over photos of this game in a magazine. Our computer at the time didn't have a VGA card, and the pictures that showed full-color digitized photos (and mini-movies) along with digitized sound really made the game look amazing. I got to play it quite a bit later, and it still looked and sounded as awesome as I had hoped. It's pretty unbelievable that the game got smashed onto floppies (with the only thing missing being the voice acting from the CD version!), and the classic RealSound driver that Access used for digital playback without a sound card was some really cool stuff. The game is straight-up silly - think Tex Murphy and level-up the dumb factor a couple of notches - using a 50s cinema serial format to show off all of the action. You get full film-reel noises, overly-dramatic narration, exploitation of women, and tons of really stupid (and often really funny) jokes. Even today, the game still looks and sounds surprisingly good for how incredibly dated it obviously is. In all honesty, the game play has always been awful - the point-and-click stuff is beyond annoying with how tiny the area covered by the cursor's pointer is (you have to be dead-on, and often can't even figure out what part of the cursor you're supposed to be pointing with), the timed sequences were infuriating in how many times you had to do them until you deciphered whatever insane leaps of logic had to be made to find a puzzle solution, and that canoe scene that the game forces you to do again and again - Jesus. But the cheesiness, the humor, and the nostalgic old-school high-tech presentation make it well worth experiencing. _________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
