Gary Grigsby's World at War Intro (2005. 2 by 3/Matrix)

The Song here in question is the Main Theme. Composed by Scott Cairns. The intro is fairly powerful without any sound effects. The game itself plays like an extended version of Axis and Allies. The basic concept is similar, with units moving, attacking and capturing enemy territories. Only certain territories can produce new units. The Axis side starts off with most (if not all) of their territories unlocked (thus providing maximum resources and able to manage/produce maximum numbers of troops). The "Western Allies" start off with certain territories being frozen (The USA is frozen to start, as is the eastern half of the USSR), which results in the early game being a bit more difficult for the Allies but the late game is significantly lopsided to their favour. Certain territories (such as the Japanese occupied Chinese lands) require a certain number of troops to keep order. Otherwise unrest and damage can happen in said territories. The "Western Allies" combines Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other current/former British territories with the United States of America. The Germans also have the Italians and other countries that unfreeze to join them when conditions are met. The USSR is primarily concentrated in the West but will unlock their Eastern half if attacked there or if other conditions are met. The Japanese and Chinese are locked in a near deadlock but have no frozen territories. The Japanese have superior forces, but the Chinese have a large home team advantage. All in all I say this game is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Super challenging though and I have never finished a game myself (I got it used after my kids were born so the games tend to drag much longer than I can afford to spend in front of the monitor). Well worth it if you can find it cheap (like I did at Value Village!). Would be nice if they released it on Steam or something. Gary Grigsby is a computer wargame designer and programmer. In 1997, he was described as "one of the founding fathers of strategy war games for the PC." Matrix Games describes the game as: The Fate of the World is in Your Hands "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind …You ask, What is our policy? I will say; ‘It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.’ You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory - victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival." – Winston Churchill’s First Address as British Prime Minister, May 13, 1940 Gary Grigsby’s World At War™ brings you to back to the dawn of the greatest and most terrible war the world has ever seen.
