F-14 Fleet Defender | Microprose 1994 (Roland Sound)

Legendary F-14 flight simulation from Microprose released in 1994 for PC MS-DOS. Initial release shipped on 5 floppy disks. 2.0 version with additional theatres (Korea and India/Pakistan) with new campaigns, squadrons operating in the Pacific, mission builder and patch fixes was released on CD. That same version with additional "Multimedia Encyclopedia" (that run under Windows) was released also on CD as Gold version in 1995. That part you can see in my playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIku_oD9y-RDUP3vKm71BglfHf2o644UK
I'm playing 2.0 version that I bought over 20 years ago. It's running on DOSBox with custom configuration file and I'm using Munt for Roland emulation. Basically all sound effects and music is played through Roland with only speech played through Sound Blaster. This particular mission I'm flying is 4th in the "Fighting Withdrawal" Campaign which takes place in vicinity of GIUK gap. For this mission we have to take out single MIG-25 Foxbat which threatens to reveal the location of our CVBG (carrier battle group). Funnily enough reconaissance MIG is downed by one of our buddies from sister squadron. Since we were still heavy from all that Phoenixes we were carrying around I decided we should hunt for some targets and loose that weight before carrier landing. Unfortunatelly our buddies that took out the MIG have been jumped and downed by a pair of Su-27s. Since they were the closest bandits we found a solution for our overweight problem. You can see I'm using TWS-Manual mode for taking out both bandits with two missiles simultaneously. You can engage in that manner up to 6 targets when you are carrying 6 AIM-54s. I pointed my wingman at Tu-142 that was probably escorted by the Flankers so he also could "loose some weight" himself. After successful downing of all the nearby bandits we headed home. My landing was dreadful (LSO rating 1.5), but for my defence this was first time I flew the sim since several months (if not years) probably. The game is available on Steam if you interested. Be sure to check out the Guide section on Steam Community forum. I posted some fixes to get the digitized sound running and a link for proper manual for Gold version.
I also recommend going through this guide if you plan on playing this fine sim yourself:
In the near future we might finally get a worthy successor for this classic sim - Heatblur just released trailer for their upcoming F-14 for DCS World. I already pre-purchased (which is something I usually avoid doing) and am waiting impatiantly for this module to come out. Anytime Baby!
