"lightning") is the ancient thunder god of the Kievan Rus, worshipped by people ever since the neolithic times. In the ancient myths, he is wielding a stone hammer/axe called Grom/Гром("thunder") that he hurls at his enemies, most evil of which being the world serpent, Veles. The hammer/axe never misses it's target and it always returns to Perun's hand. His old finnish/karelian equivalent is the thunder god Perkele, whom had been labelled as the devil by christianity to discourage his worship and the practice of the old pagan traditions that were respected since the stone age.
