Decap Attack (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthough of Sega's 1991 horror-themed action-platformer for the Sega Genesis, Decap Attack. Only in the 1990s would you probably ever see a game named something like "Decap Attack," or would you play a game where your primary mode of attack was to remove your head and throw it at people. Decap Attack is the fourth and final game in a loosely grouped series of platformers made by Vic Tokai. It follows Kid Kool (1988, NES), Psycho Fox (1989, Master System), and Magical Hat Adventure (1990, Mega Drive), though Decap Attack is largely a western reskin of the Magical Hat. The unlikely hero, Chuck D. Head (lmao!), is a headless mummy with a number of unexpected tools that he can use against in his fight against the forces of Max D. Cap. He can hop on enemies' heads (which looks hilarious thanks to his Chuck's stubby little chicken legs), he can shoot a face - apparently tethered by a ropey mass of gore - out of his chest's face to bite stuff, and if he has found a skull, he can throw it at stuff. Decap Attack plays much better than the games that came before it thanks to its improved controls and sense of level design, and its sense of humor is golden. It also looks and sounds way better. Rather than coming across as a Mario-wannabe like the 8-bit games did, Decap Attack has a ton of style. It's bright and cartoony, the animation looks great, and some of the music is phenomenal - the overall level of creativity and quality on here makes the game feel special and quite unique. There isn't too much in the way of challenge here, but Decap Attack did an excellent job of differentiating itself from similar fare with its personality and its cutesy yet macabre sensibilities, and it's a great deal of fun. I wonder if Chuck D. Head would ever like to meet Murray the Talking Skull. How awesome would that crossover be!? _ No cheats were used during the recording of this video. NintendoComplete (
